The plates above are resin replicas which I have cast from originals (there is no shrinkage in the casting process).
Above right are the plates from S5542S, one of the 1925 'Thanet' composites running in set 424. The coach was withdrawn May 1959. It ended up as Marine Shop's Canteen, Newhaven, according to the annotation on the back of the wooden backing to the plate (right).
The dimensions are:
Left - SR Maunsell Brake Composite No.6686 of 1935. Right - SR Maunsell Open Third No.1309 of 1935.
Above Left - SR Maunsell Droplight Open Third No.1336 of 1933.
Above Right - SR Bulleid-designed (BR Built) Brake Third/Second No.2526 of 1951.
Right - SR Bulleid-designed, Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Co. built No.4279 of 1949. Note the oval tare plate showing 32 1/5 Tons.
